Question by Ed F: what is the name of the scale that EMT’s and medical personel use to describe the condition of a persons life?
I heard an expert witness at a hearing friday mention a scale that is used by medical personel to describe the physical state of life of a human being. It was mentioned regarding a patient entering ICU after a major accident, and again after 2 months of re-hab. I think it was from 0-15, with 0 being dead, and 15 descibing a fully functional person with all life systems working at peak.

thanks!
Thanks ssg/emt for a perfect response and quick as well. I obviously, could not go up and ask the person to repeat what he had said, and was thinking of it later, and couldn’t remember.

I cannot find the button to punch this as best answer, but truely are grateful for your help

I believe you are referring to the Glasgow Coma Scale.

It assigns scores for best eye response, best verbal response and best motor response.

For example, if you open your eyes without being spoken to or touched, you get a 4 , if you only open your eyes to a painful stimuli like a pinch, you get a 2. It is similar for voice and motor (ability to move)

Best is a 15 worst is a 3.
